Judy Cheske, Contemporary Visual Artist

Artist Portfolio Website

In addition to designing websites, I am an abstract artist, and I needed a portfolio site for my art, to serve as a hub for all communications: social media and submissions.

In designing my own site, I knew I wanted a minimal design that allows my artwork to take center stage, so I used simple typography for my site title, and muted whites and grays for my color palette.

I generally work in series, and I organized my portfolio this way. I created images with links to my series on the home page, and there’s also a drop down links in the main navigation. Simplicity is the overriding design theme for all pages, but the site is very modern in a few ways: Squarespace makes it easy to add simple animation that adds subtle energy to the site. And, the newer version of Squarespace (7.1) allows for the use of sophisticated shifts in colors within sections on each page.

Key strengths of the new site

  • Minimal design highlights artwork

  • Subtle animation creates energy

  • Easy to update
